Argentine Ants

Argentine Ants breed rapidly and have rather large colonies. They are an invasive species and are typically attracted to moist areas. Argentine ants eat most anything but they love sweet foods the most. A good way to recognize them is their perfect trail of ants that travel up a home, building, sidewalk etc.

What do they look like?
They are a light to dark brown color and are about ⅛ inch in length.

Carpenter Ants

Carpenter ants like to build their nests in damp areas or decaying wood. If your home has issues that cause moisture to build up this can be a great target for these ants. Carpenter ants like to consume sweets and other insects, they don’t eat wood but instead burrow their nests in it by removing pieces of wood, which can be bad for houses.

What do they look like?
They are one of the biggest ants in the US and are typically black in color with large jaws. Sometimes they may be brown and usually have long legs.

Odorous house ants like to nest indoors, usually housing up in the walls or floor areas. They love eating sweets, pastries, and meats so your pantry is a heavenly place to them. When they get disturbed they will behave erratically raising their abdomens in the air.

What do they look like?
They are usually a dark brown to shiny black color, with their wings only covering three quarters of their body. Ranging in size from 1 to 1 ¼ inches long. Females and males have a few slight differences.

They are a light to dark brown color and are about ⅛ inch in length.

House Mouse

House Mouse

House mice breed rapidly and can quickly invade an area, they also adapt quickly to many environments. They live both inside and outside, they like basements, shrubs, garages and more. Their favorite foods are cereal grains, fruits, nuts and don’t need much water to survive.

What do they look like?
They are typically a grey color with a light belly. An adult mouse is approximately 2-3 inches long with large ears and a pointed nose. Their tail is as long as their body.

Roof Rat

Roof rats like to be off the ground in higher environments like in trees, attics, and voids in your roofline. They can be highly damaging because they can chew up wiring, insulation, they can carry diseases, and more. Roof rats like to store their food, they like to eat seeds, nuts, and citrus fruits.

What do they look like?
Roof rats are about 7-10 inches in length, weighing about 8 ounces and have smooth fur. They also have long tails – longer than their bodies and large eyes.

Norway Rat

Norway rats like to stay hidden during the day.They are adaptive to different environments, they like to nest in underground burrows that are close to a water source. They are commonly called sewer rats but also like to live in basements, crawlspaces, woodpiles and more.

What do they look like?
Norway rats are stocky burrowing rodents that are larger than roof rats. The Norway rat is large, robust, and between 7 to 18 ounces. The tail is shorter than the body, dark above and pale below.

American Cockroach

American Cockroach

American cockroaches are the largest of the cockroach family and are annoying pests. They can fly and like to live in warmer and damp areas, this can consist of mulch, bathrooms, sewers, flower beds and more. Inside they like to eat food around kitchens under appliances, drains, pet food that is left out.

What do they look like?
American Cockroaches are large and have an average length of 1- 3 inches long, with reddish brown color.

German Cockroaches

German cockroaches are your most common cockroach. They like to live in preowned electronics, garbage containers, kitchen areas, sinks, anything that provides food, water and a safe place. They reproduce quickly making them difficult to get rid of.
What do they look like?
German cockroaches are a lighter brown color with black stripes and wings. Adults can be around the size of ½” long.

Oriental Cockroaches eat almost anything but really like decaying organic matter like trash. They like to come around during the warmer months of spring or early summer. They are most active at night or in a dark area during daytime.

What do they look like?

The black widow spiders are nocturnal and love yards that have lots of places to hide, undisturbed areas, dry, and sheltered, as well as, lots of insects for them to feed on. They can deliver a venomous bite that ranges from mild to painful, death is unlikely. Their webs are messy and located closer to the ground in dark secluded places which can be woodpiles, stones, garages, sheds, and more. A black widow can produce up to 20 egg sacs in their lifetime. Each egg sac can contain anywhere from 200-300 spiders. They only take about 2 weeks to hatch.

What do they look like?
Female black widow spiders are known for their red hourglass under their belly. They are black in color and are about ⅝ inches long.

Carpet beetles like to feed on fabrics suchs as leather, silk, as well as dead insects. Adults change to eating pollen but will usually leave their eggs on fabrics in houses, especially if the house is unkempt.

What do they look like?
Carpet beetles are oval shaped, they are greyish in color with white, orange, or yellow patterns on their backs.

Brown Dog Tick

Brown dog ticks like to feed off of our dogs usually found in their ears, between toes or on their backs. They can reproduce quickly causing a fast infestation. They usually feed off the blood of dogs but will feed off of humans too.

What do they look like?
Brown dog ticks are flat and small with a reddish-brown color. When females eat, they frown in size up to a ½ inch long and turn a greyish color.

Earwigs are active during nighttime, yet attracted to lights. They usually prefer cooler, moist areas that have little disturbances. They like to eat decaying vegetation and dead animals.

What do they look like?
Earwigs move fast and have pinchers at the end of their abdomen. They are a light reddish brown color and can be around ½ to 1 inch long.

Fleas like to live off of animals, humans, and our beloved pets. They need blood from their host to survive, they live both inside and outside. If people get them, they usually have swollen and itchy marks on their skin.

What do they look like?
Fleas are really small and difficult to see. Their small size allows them to move through animal fur easily. They have long legs that allow them to jump great distances.

Silverfish

Silverfish are very common in households and can survive in most climates. They like to live in dark areas and love clothing and paper items. Since they like those materials they are great at destroying them. The most common way they get indoors is from boxes being moved in.

What do they look like?
Silver fish are a brown to greyish color, they have a teardrop shape. They are long and slender and have three bristles near their back end.

Bed bugs are typically active during the night feeding on their host with little notice. Since they are hard to find and see it takes a trained eye to find them and remove them. They are quick producers and can cause a big infestation if not taken care of. They do have a few common signs on a bed that can be bloodstains or brown or black stains.

What do they look like?
Bed bugs are flat and small with segmented abdomens and microscopic hair. They are around only 4-5 millimeters big.

Honey Bees are around all year and are usually seen in large size hives around things like eaves, chimneys, or structural areas. When they are moving, they can be in a large swarm. An established colony can have around 50,000 bees and produce up to 80 pounds of honey.

What do they look like?
Honeybees are a brown color with black stripes, although patterns and colors can vary depending on the breed. They are usually around ½ inch in size.

Yellow jackets are common during summer and fall times. They feed on sugary substances like nectar or fruit. They are very territorial and aggressive. They can sting multiple times and it can be very painful.

What do they look like?
Yellow jackets are medium size with black and yellow colors. They have a rather small waist.

Wasps live in places like eaves and gutters. They love to hang around trash cans or sugary food/drinks. Wasps usually live-in colonies but are usually not aggressive and are less likely to sting, but they can sting multiple times. Although they are annoying, they will usually leave you alone.

They are usually black, yellow or metallic colors with blue or green. They have varying sizes but with wings and a pinched waist.
